April 8th-26th gallery (AV17) is preparing a continuous educational project “Everyday objects in creation”. From 2019 the creative educational workshop project that has been launched this year will invite students to classes in Tauragė, Raseiniai, and Jurbarkas art schools in April this year. This is a series of creative workshops for 10-18 year old students, allowing them to directly touch the important principles of creating contemporary art. The project is focused on getting to know contemporary art and encouraging interest in smaller Lithuanian cities. Well-known contemporary artists and lecturers will give theoretical and practical lectures on contemporary art to students. Also, young people will have the opportunity to directly touch the basics and principles of creating contemporary art.

(AV17) gallery stands out from the others by aiming to exclusively present the art of a contemporary object, sculpture, and installation. Its main goal is to popularize contemporary art among different audiences and to stimulate its understanding and interest through various creative and relevant methods for a modern person. The activities of the project “Everyday Objects in Art” are focused on the knowledge of sculpture, object, installation, and body art. Therefore during the educational workshops the emphasis is on ready-made, often used in sculpture. One of the ways of utilizing ready-made in the creative process involves the use of secondary raw materials and already existing objects in creation. This creative method not only works as an accessible way of self-expression but also draws attention to the culture of consumption, promotes awareness, and provides an ecological subtlety in the creation of art.

During the creative workshop, participants will be included in educational lectures and discussions about contemporary sculpture, objects, harmonious art, ready-made by professional Lithuanian artists and educators: Neringa Zakarauskaitė, Austė Jurgelionytė – Varnė, Vygintas Orlovas, Gintautas Kavoliūnas, and Saulė Noreikaitė. Photo artist and master of old analogue photography Gintas Kavoliūnas will introduce the participants to the old photographic technologies. During the workshop, the lecturer will invite the participants to discover the use of ready-made photography, construct narratives with the help of ready-made, and analyze the theme of archives in contemporary sculpture. Textile artist Austeja Varnė will show how to utilize accessible materials to create objects of light that are both easy to make and could also be put to practical use in one’s environment. Reusable bags – lanterns – pillows printed with plant patterns will not only encourage to find materials for creativity in our surroundings but also use less plastic or paper. Art therapist and ceramist Neringa Zakarauskaitė will present a workshop on ceramic sculptural objects and will look for ways to combine them with found objects. The creative workshops will focus on the consistently changing inner experiences that are transferred through the creative process. These workshops invite students to get involved in art and explore themselves through spontaneous artistic expression. Performance artist of the young generation, Saulė Noreikaitė will introduce the participants to the basics of performance art and together create an individual and collective performance. The activity will be aimed at unleashing the participants’ creativity and thinking through movement, using their bodies and the objects they have brought, thus expressing the emotions associated with them. Vygintas Orlovas is a well-known Lithuanian interdisciplinary artist who works with sound and video synaesthesia, creating sound and video performances. During the education, students will be introduced to different types of sound recording techniques, which will then be used to create a collaborative sound installation. The artist will invite participants to think about the environment and its objects through sound. The relationship between visual art and music will be highlighted during the workshop.
