AV17 gallery at POSITIONS art fair, Berlin
Five sculptors – Rimantas Milkintas, Mindaugas Junčys, Nerijus Erminas, Andrius Erminas and Rafal Piesliak – were presented at the contemporary art fair POSITIONS in Berlin by Vilnius-based (AV17) gallery.
Five authors of one generation create in the fields of contemporary sculptural object and installation, and their works cover a wide range of topics: from the current social and political context to subjective, interpersonal, existential and purely formal aspects of sculptural form and volume construction. Rimantas Milkintas combines characteristic minimalist aesthetics with kinetic plasticity and highlights the tension of opposite poles. Mindaugas Junčys, using such materials as marble, bronze or stone, expresses an ironic attitude, transforming them into non-traditional, uncharacteristic objects. Nerijus Erminas’ works are characterized by a sensitive transformation of reality into surreal, subconscious experiences, and in the narrative installations created by the artist, easily recognizable details of human life and everyday situations are transformed, tilted in an unusual direction away from reality. Andrius Erminas presents sensitive and associative sculptural objects that speak in signs and symbols. Rafal Piesliak’s light installation “Barricade” reflects on a person’s well-being and emotional connection with the surrounding environment.
At the Positions Art Fair (AV17) gallery is the only one that exclusively presents sculpture and installation, thus attracting the attention of a wide range of art lovers as well as collectors and journalists. The gallery establishes contacts with other galleries from various countries for the further development of joint projects, thus contributing to the dissemination of Lithuanian sculpture and installation art abroad.
The Positions took place in Berlin for the third time. The fair is set in the former Postbahnof train station and features 74 galleries from 13 countries around the world, showcasing both contemporary and contemporary art. The fair reflects one of the most impressive trends in the Berlin art scene, and the works brought to the art mecca by important art galleries for one event speak on highly relevant and touching topics.
