Waiting: group exhibition of contemporary sculpture
From April 22 the (AV17) gallery presented the exhibition of contemporary sculpture “Waiting” at the Kūdrų Park, Vilnius. In the exhibition, ten well-known Lithuanian sculptors exhibited their works: Danas Aleksa, Jonas Aničas, Algis Kasparavičius, Tauras Kensminas, Mindaugas Navakas, Rimantas Milkintas, Rafal Piesliak, Mykolas Sauka, Marija Šnipaitė, and Vladas Urbanavičius. These are the artists representing different generations, from younger to older – so called grands of Lithuanian sculpture. All of them are united by their conceptual work pursuing new forms of expression in sculpture.
The artworks presented are created using different sculpture techniques specific to each artist, nevertheless, in their own way they all reflect today’s reality and its prevailing moods. Constant socio-political disagreements, societal divisions and changing norms encourage tackling and questioning the traditions. And the constant tension and uncertainty about the future creates feelings of fragility and encourages rethinking of one’s place in the world. Each work in the exhibition reflects the reality felt by the artist, and their totality encompasses the current human relationship with the world.
The gallery (AV17) organizing the exhibition is located at Totorių Street in Vilnius; this space has been actively working with contemporary art for 10 years. This is one of few Lithuanian galleries that exclusively exhibit contemporary object, sculpture and installation art. In addition to regular exhibition activities, the gallery implements various international and regional artistic and educational projects, carries out exchange programs with foreign and Lithuanian creators, thus promoting the dissemination of contemporary art in our country and Europe.
