On October 28 at 5.30 p.m., solo exhibition by Julija Pociūtė “The Entwining Thrives Within It” will open at the A. Driukas Musical Galery of the Utena Cultural Centre.

Julija Pociūtė is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores embodied modes of perception, relationships, and co-existence, as well as the shifting boundaries between the people and the natural world. Through her installations, the artist examines how bodily experience and memory shape our relationship with the inner world and the environment around us. In her recent work, she has been exploring the relationship between us and nature, seeking to reconsider the sense of separation and create space for mutual care and vulnerability.

In the exhibition “The Entwining Thrives Within It,” artist Julija Pociūtė delves into the sensory connection between the people and the environment, based on mutual experience and the shifting boundaries of the landscape. The reference “within it” in the title remains open in the context of the exhibition—it can be a place, matter, a body, or a natural medium where different experiences take root and continue. Drawing on philosopher David Abram’s ideas about the relationship between people and the world, the artist presents the surroundings as a state that responds to perception and memory. In this process, recurring motifs immerse the space in fragmented memories of a place once already experienced.

These ideas unfold through the interaction of different materials and the transformations they undergo. The recurring form of a birch twig is transformed into seaweed like structures, therefore connecting experiences of land and water. Leather, fragments of wood, and light become references to transitional spaces that belong neither to places inhabited by people nor to the forest. These material transformations and connections open up new experiences, inviting us to reconsider our relationship with a place.

The presentation of “The Entwining Thrives Within It” is part of a broader project organized by (AV17) Gallery, aimed at bringing professional contemporary art to Lithuanian cities outside the capital.
