In his solo exhibition “Stages”, Rimantas Milkintas presents sculptures and installations created between 2004 and 2025, exploring the stages of his artistic development. Milkintas’s work is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic and the integration of kinetic plasticity. Due to focus on the significant form of a work of art and its material properties, creations of the artist are often compared to those of Lithuanian and foreign classics of modernism. His works are recognizable for their open constructions and the illusion of movement created in space. Instead of traditional materials, the sculptor uses industrial steel, plywood, and iron beams, juxtaposing their physical properties of volumes such as flexibility, sturdiness, softness or fragility with individual experience. By combining strict structural forms, he creates a specific visual tension that allows the objects to respond to the architectural environment and engage the viewer in a direct experience.

The exhibition “Stages” defines transitional states – the time between events, forms, and different conceptual contexts – which in the artist’s work become an active creative space where new structures and meaningful connections emerge. In the context of global tensions and political upheavals, the exhibited works gain new relevance, speaking about the search for balance, the fragility of structures, and constant change. The central piece of the exhibition is the installation “Connection”, which, by linking separate elements into a tense system, reveals itself in the present as a metaphor for the necessity of connections between people, cultures, and experiences, as well as their vulnerability. Thus, the exhibition invites the viewer to experience different “stages” – transitional moments in which tension, fragility, and complex relationships between forms, materials, and experiences are revealed.
