The gallery (AV17), which actively presents Lithuanian creators at foreign fairs, returned to Berlin and for the sixth time represented Lithuanian contemporary sculptors at the POSITIONS art fair from September 12 to 15.

This is one of the most important and biggest art events in Germany, taking place during the Berlin Art Week. Every year, over 60,000 collectors, art professionals, curators and art lovers gather under one roof. This year, the fair features 110 galleries from at least 20 countries around the world, with a special focus on the South Korean art scene. POSITIONS art fair visitors will have a great opportunity to see and purchase the works of well-known Lithuanian sculptors and installation creators Rimantas Milkints and Algis Kasparavičius.

Rimantas Milkintas is a sculptor and installation artist combining minimalist aesthetics and kinetic plasticity. Due to the focus on the significant form of a work of art and its material properties, his creations are often compared to those of Lithuanian and foreign classics of modernism. However, in continuing the tradition of modern sculpture, especially minimalist aesthetics, Milkintas successfully develops strategies of postmodern art and conceptualism. Instead of classic materials, the artist opts for veneer, metal, and especially the industrial beams which in his creations are being cut, bent, deformed in a way to reflect on the questions of identity. Industrial beams are one of the main construction materials in architecture. The use of these structures conveys the multilayered experience, which refers to the past as historical context of the material, and the nowadays – the artist rebuilt.

The artist has organized more than fifty exhibitions. Since 2003, he has been actively working in the art field in Lithuania and abroad: China, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Latvia, etc. Milkintas received awards in Lithuania and abroad. In 2020 Rimantas Milkintas was awarded the Golden Badge of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association for the active creation of sculptures and installations for public spaces, and his works have been acquired by museums, art foundations and private collections.

Another artist that the gallery (AV17) presented to the Berlin art community is Algis Kasparavičius – sculptor installation an object artist. His works are based on a philosophical and multi-layered approach to different topics which are usually centred around the inner world of an individual, modern society and ritualistic practices of the modern man. When creating installations for exhibition spaces, Kasparavičius often stages situations with elements of a detective story, manipulating images instantly recognisable by the audience as well as time and space itself. His work was presented not only in Lithuania, but also in Italy, Finland, Germany, the USA and other countries. The artist’s activities have been repeatedly evaluated by the state scholarship awarded to creators of culture and art. He has received the National Grant for Art and Culture Creators numerous times.

(AV17) gallery is one of the few Lithuanian galleries participating in international art fairs and exclusively presenting sculpture, object and installation art. The gallery has exhibited works by Lithuanian artists at art fairs such as NADA Villa Warsaw, Art Verona, art KARLSRUHE, VOLTA fairs in Basel and New York, Artissima fair in Turin, etc.

POSITIONS art fair took place from September 12 to 15.
