Creative-educational workshops with the Lithuanian sculptor Rimantas Milkintas
2025-06-12
(AV17) Gallery invited 16-18 years old participants to register for educational workshops with the Lithuanian sculptor Rimantas Milkintas, which took place in June. Participants had a unique opportunity to visit the artist’s studio and got an up-close look at his creative work. Through a combination of sessions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the principles of contemporary sculpture and creative processes.
In the theoretical part of the workshop, participants explored the importance of form and concept in sculpture. They discussed how spatial thinking can help us to understand and create three-dimensional objects, and explore the basic principles of sculptural composition. Rimantas Milkintas talked to the young people about how technology is changing the way we view art, and the opportunities this offers contemporary artists.
During the practical workshops, participants applied their theoretical knowledge to create sketches, which later was transformed into sculptural models. Using one of the technologies frequently employed in Milkintas’ work—plasma cutting—each participant, with the artist’s guidance, was able to bring their creative ideas to life using contemporary methods, creating original compositions from sheet steel.
Rimantas Milkintas is a renowned Lithuanian sculptor and creator of objects and installations. He is actively involved in artistic activities, organises exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, and teaches drawing and sculpture at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and the Justinas Vienožinskis Art School.
The creative-educational workshops will take place in Vilnius from June 13 to 16, from 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
Location: Sculpture and Glass Centre, Dariaus ir Girėno str. 25, Vilnius
