(AV17) Gallery returns to one of Europe’s leading contemporary art fairs, “Artissima”, where it will present works by Žilvinas Kempinas.

Žilvinas Kempinas is one of the most internationally recognized Lithuanian contemporary artists, whose interdisciplinary practice explores movement, perception, light, and space. Living and working in New York, the artist creates installations, sculptures, and other works in which simple and familiar materials are transformed into dynamic visual experience. Magnetic tape, light, and other physical elements become tools for examining how forms emerge, shift, and disappear in relation to their surroundings. Rather than treating the artwork as a fixed object, the artist creates situations that unfold through the viewer’s perception and physical presence.

At “Artissima”, (AV17) Gallery will present a selection of Žilvinas Kempinas’ works that explore the fluid relationship between perception, time, and physical forces. Across the presentation, references to celestial bodies, the subtle vibration of magnetic tape, and the interaction between air and gravity become ways of considering how reality is formed and experienced. Kempinas creates visual situations in which familiar materials are transformed through their interaction with the surrounding environment, shifting between stability and movement. Rather than offering a static view, the works create conditions in which perception becomes a way of experiencing space differently. Here the artist’s works unfold as changing spatial and perceptual structures, where visual simplicity conceals more complex relationships between the artwork and its surroundings.

Žilvinas Kempinas (b. 1969) has lived and worked in New York since 1997 and has been exhibiting internationally since 1992. He represented Lithuania at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009 and received the Calder Prize and Atelier Calder Residency Award in 2007, followed by the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts in 2012. His work has been presented at major institutions including MoMA PS1 in New York, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and Kunsthalle Wein in Vienna, as well as in numerous international biennials and exhibitions. His works are held in collections including Centre Pompidou in Paris, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, MUDAM in Luxembourg city, the Margulies Collection in Miami, the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and MO Museum in Vilnius, and Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane.

The “Artissima” Art Fair will take place at OVAL Lingotto Fiere, Via Giacomo Mattè Trucco 70, Turin, from October 30 to November 1. (AV17) Gallery‘s booth: 6 (Red line).
