(AV17) Gallery presenting two renowned Lithuanian sculptors at the “Artissima” art fair
From November 1st to November 3rd (AV17) Gallery participated in one of Europe’s most prestigious art fairs, “Artissima”. For this occasion, the gallery’s curated booth showcased works by sculptors Rimantas Milkintas and Vladas Urbanavičius, spanning different periods of their careers.
“Artissima”, now in its 31st edition, is Italy’s only art fair dedicated entirely to contemporary art. Its programme and participants are chosen by a panel of distinguished international curators and directors from major museums and art foundations. Each year, the fair draws over 60,000 visitors, including prominent critics, curators, and art professionals. Its reputation for excellence is affirmed by the participation of Europe’s top galleries year after year.
“Since our founding, we have focused on introducing Lithuanian sculptors works to international audiences. That is mainly achieved through participation in international art fairs and solo exhibitions hosted by foreign galleries. As we have exhibited Lithuanian creators in Italy, this year we continue that journey at “Artissima”. We are honored to be included in the fair’s main section alongside prestigious galleries such as 193 Gallery (Paris), Green Art Gallery (Dubai), and Piero Atchugarry Gallery (Miami). Italy is known for its deep appreciation of art, and we believe “Artissima” visitors will recognise and appreciate the exceptional works,” says Kristina Mizgirytė, Director of (AV17) Gallery.
At “Artissima”, (AV17) Gallery presented works by two renowed Lithuanian sculptors, Vladas Urbanavičius and Rimantas Milkintas. Though from different generations, both artists transcend temporal constraints in their creative expression. Urbanavičius is distinguished by his unique synthesis of minimalist thought and a refined sensitivity to form, while Milkintas utilizes minimalist aesthetics to explore the kinetic plasticity. Together, their works form a monumental space where abstract sculptural forms guide the viewer into deeper metaphysical realms. The phenomena perceived in their works extend beyond the limits of cognition, offering viewers an opportunity to engage with purified, abstract forms and discern meanings that lie beneath the surface.
Rimantas Milkintas (b. 1977) has exhibited his work in more than fifty exhibitions across Lithuania and internationally, in countries such as Germany, China, Italy, Belgium, and Finland. In 2006, Milkintas was awarded the prestigious Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation prize for contemporary sculpture, and in 2011, he received the Best Sculpture award at the international contemporary art fair “ArtVilnius”. In 2020, he was honored with the Golden Badge of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association for his active creation of sculptures and installations in public spaces.
Founded in 2011, (AV17) Gallery is one of the few Lithuanian galleries exclusively dedicated to contemporary object, sculpture, and installation art. The gallery collaborates with established conceptual sculptors from Lithuania and abroad, while also focusing on showcasing the early works of emerging, promising artists.
The project was financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
