Tomas Martišauskis
Tomas Martišauskis is a sculptor and art researcher whose work explores the intersection of sculpture, digital technology, and conceptual thinking. The artist is interested in translating one plastic and semantic whole into another, perceiving an object as a changing collection of data, image, and matter. Employing 3D scanning, modeling, and coding systems, the author transforms physical objects into digital sculptures, textual or audio formats and newly materialized forms. In his practice, authorship is partially delegated to technological logic, while matter, image, and code functions as equal elements of contemporary reality.
Tomas Martišauskis (b. 1977) graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with a master’s degree in sculpture in 2006 and completed his Doctorate there in 2020. Since 2000 he has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. The artist has received art grants and taken part in international residencies, including at Nida Art Colony and “Kulturamt” in Dusseldorf, Germany. Since 2007 he teaches sculpture in Justinas Vienožinskis Art School in Vilnius, and in 2013 he became a member of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artist’s Association.
